Poem: Fly

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Dissatisfied with the body’s cage,
Yearning for a companion not of this world,
Deceived time & again by the physical eye,
This soul wants to fly.

Unimpressed by the glitter & glamour,
This world is ugly, at best,
And repulsive & cursed,
at worst.

Yet here in this world I remain,
while my soul cries for an escape.
The balance of Fear and Hope gets tilted
as my soul gets beaten and battered.

I’m blase to your words,
to your endless talk of wordly things.
Thrill me, inspire me, excite me,
Talk to me about Allah and my Nabi. (saw)

Save your admiration & lowly love
Unless you direct it to the Divine
Your exaltation of me makes me sigh
Oh because this soul wants to fly.

High & low I’ve gone,
searching, seeking, and waiting
For red sulphur in endless supply
Please, ya Rabb, this soul wants to fly!
